Two design problems in one city
Designing for overseas customers and for the citizen next door.
Technopark, established in 1990 and one of India's earliest IT parks, is home to companies building software for clients and users in other countries. Their products often have strong engineering behind them but interfaces that were designed by developers under deadline. Customers abroad compare them with the best products in their category, so usability and visual polish directly affect sales and renewals.
Thiruvananthapuram is also the state capital, with many institutions and public-facing organisations whose websites and portals are used by people of every age and ability. For these, accessibility, clear Malayalam and English content, and forms that work on basic phones matter more than visual flourish. Government websites in India are also expected to follow published guidelines such as GIGW.
